Electronic Throttle body Control Units
These units are used to electronically position the throttle body valve opening (no cables from pedal to throttle body) according to input from the engine control unit. Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc.'s electronic throttle bodies are the leader in the world of drive-by-wire systems.
An electronic throttle body (ETB) controls the intake of air into the engine. Instead of a traditional throttle body with an accelerator cable, Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc.'s ETB utilizes a microcomputer to control the throttle opening quickly and precisely. Precision is essential to optimally control engine torque according to the conditions of operation and engine combustion, resulting in improved fuel economy and reduced emissions. These units normally consist of: throttle body, throttle position sensor, electric motor, and sometimes electronic control circuitry.
Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc. makes many types of engine control units, either printed circuit board or ceramic board (for higher temperature environments). The above unit is a water-proofed printed circuit board type ECU for engine compartment mounting (not for on-engine mounting).
This is an in-passenger compartment mounted transmission control unit. This automatically controls the transmission shifting sequence.
TCU controls the gear groups according to the driving conditions. It receives the driving data from many sensors and switches as input signals. It is also connected with ECU, HECU, instrument panel and selector lever control unit. The Transmission Control Unit allows a modern automatic transmission which is now able to achieve better fuel economy, reduced engine emissions, greater shift system reliability, improved shift feel, improved shift speed and improved vehicle handling.
