Balancer

Balancer shaft or balancer is commonly used in four cylinder engines. All in-line four cylinder engines have 2nd order vibration resulting from unavoidable design asymmetry. The balancer, rotating at twice the engine speed, creates its own vertical force that cancels the 2nd order vibration, resulting in smoother engine operation.

This compact solution significantly reduces the assembly complexity at engine assembly plant and provides reliable and efficient product.

Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc. also supports balance shaft used in 3 cylinder engines. These can also be combined with variable displacement oil pumps.
